Landon’s brow furrowed ever so slightly, his expression turning a few degrees colder.
“What are you doing here?”
Noelle picked up on the chill in his voice, her smile faltering for a moment before she quickly recovered.
“I missed you, so I came to see you,” she said, deliberately raising her voice so the executive assistants outside would hear.
A flicker of icy annoyance passed through Landon’s eyes. He didn’t reply, just turned on his heel and walked into the CEO’s office.
Noelle hurried after him, closing the door behind her as curious glances followed them. The hushed whispers outside were just audible:
“So that’s the CEO’s wife…”
A trace of smugness flashed in Noelle’s eyes.
“Landon, I’ve called you the past couple of days and you haven’t answered. Why are you ignoring me?” she pouted, stepping up to his desk and grumbling in a soft voice.
Landon sat down in his chair, his gaze cool as he regarded her. “You actually came at the right time.”
Noelle’s face lit up. “You missed me too, didn’t you? I knew it—Zinnia must have been keeping you from picking up my—”
“Enough.”
His sharp tone cut her off mid-sentence.
Noelle froze, her words stuck in her throat. She stared at Landon, stunned by the coldness in his eyes, and fell silent.
“Zinnia is my wife. You should call her Zinnia,” Landon said, his look steely and brooking no argument.
