If she really believed he still cared about her, she would be too stupid. She tried hard to convince herself but couldn’t control her heart.

All morning, memories of her past with Brian kept flashing through her mind, making her extremely annoyed.

“Jessica, be careful!” During lunch break, Sana saw Jessica walking out of the office with her head down, about to crash into the plant around the corner. She took a big stride forward to pull Jessica back.

Startled from her daze, Jessica asked in confusion, “What’s wrong?”

“I should be asking you that. Do you know how dangerous that was? If I had reacted a second slower, you would have hit the plant pot,” Sana said, still

shaken.

Only then did Jessica notice she had somehow walked up to the largest potted plant in the workspace. Looking at the thick tree trunk in the flower pot just a step away from her, she couldn’t help feeling scared.

“Thanks,” Jessica said in a hoarse voice. If she had really hit it, even if she didn’t need to go to the hospital, she would have felt awful for a while.

“Compared to your thanks, I hope you can take care of yourself.” Sana looked at Jessica, who was drifting off again, and felt very worried. She wondered what had happened to Jessica recently to make her so distracted.

“Why don’t you take the afternoon off and go home to catch up on sleep? Your dark circles are so bad, I’m really worried,” Sana sincerely advised.

Jessica shook her head. “There are still a bunch of files waiting for me to process. Don’t worry, I know what I’m doing and won’t let myself collapse.”

Sana wanted to persuade her more, but Jessica walked around her toward the elevator.

Afraid Jessica might have another accident on the way, Sana quickly followed and said, “Jessica, are you going to the cafeteria? I’ll go with you.”

Sensing her kindness, Jessica hesitated but didn’t refuse in the end.

They went to the cafeteria together, had lunch, and returned to the office. Under Sana’s insistent request, Jessica had to try to take a lunch break, but she couldn’t fall asleep at all.

She could only lie there and endure the hour. In the afternoon, her mental state not only didn’t improve but got worse. By around 4 p.m., Jessica was flipping through files but couldn’t focus at all.

She gave in, informed the secretarial department, grabbed her laptop, and left early to go home and rest, also to avoid Brian. She didn’t want to him anytime soon.

When Dereck received the secretary’s report that Jessica had left work early, he furrowed his brows slightly. An hour later, Brian looked at the empty parking space where Jessica’s car should be in the company parking lot and frowned unhappily.
