Jessica paused for a moment, then left immediately.
“Jessi!” Brian, who had come half an hour early to wait, didn’t hesitate to chase after her.
“Don’t touch me!” Jessica grew more annoyed when she heard his voice and immediately picked up her bag to throw at him.
Brian got hit right by Jessica’s handbag, but he showed no sign of backing down.
“Jessi, don’t play around with your health.” Brian hugged her. When looking down at her obvious dark circles, he couldn’t help feeling worried.
“It’s none of your business.” Jessica pushed him hard, but the next second Brian picked her up bridal–style and carried her back to the car. She said angrily, “Let me go, Brian.”
Jessica was furious about his actions.
“Alright, be careful of your head,” Brian said in a deep voice, then gently placed her in the backseat.
As soon as she sat down, she wanted to scold Brian, but a croissant stuffed her mouth.
The car fell silent immediately, making her sudden stomach growl sound so clear.
Jessica’s face instantly turned bright red, and she wished she could kill Brian with her gaze.
Brian couldn’t help but smile reassuringly at her expression, though he was still worried about her.
“I need to reply to some messages. Take your time.” Before Jessica could say anything, Brian thoughtfully made an excuse to get out of the car.
Jessica quickly swallowed the croissant in her mouth. Although she was still annoyed, she couldn’t help but take another croissant to eat.
She had to admit Brian’s cooking had improved again–such delicious food was hard to resist. She figured since he wasn’t here now, it wouldn’t hurt to eat some. She treated it as him paying child support in advance for the unborn kids.
Jessica managed to convince herself that she was just hungry. Carrying twins already took a lot of energy, and after not eating all night, she had felt dizzy when getting out of the car earlier.
After wolfing down the food Brian brought, Jessica felt much better. Indeed, filling her stomach was a mood–lifting thing no matter when.
Jessica prepared to get out of the car.
“Done eating? Want to rest for a while?” Brian noticed her movement and quickly reached out to open the car door for her.
“No.” The moment Jessica saw Brian, the relaxed look on her face vanished completely, and she silently scolded herself in her heart for letting her guard down again.
Brian noticed her expression change and felt a bit sad/He pleaded, “Jessi, can we talk?”
He thought there must be a misunderstanding between them. Jessica had seemed less repelled by him before, but now she suddenly disliked him again.
“We have nothing to talk about.” Jessica left this sentence and walked straight past him.
There was no need for her to communicate with Brian anymore. They were divorced, and Brian could be with anyone he wanted. She couldn’t blame anyone for her momentary loss of control over her emotions.
