Brian closed his eyes for a moment. “I don’t want to upset her again. Whether you believe me or not, none of this was my intention today. I never truly meant to hurt Jessi.”

Simon didn’t believe a single word he said.

Brian had no energy left to explain. He simply opened his eyes and fixed his gaze on Jessica.

“I’ll agree to the divorce,” he finally said.

Brian thought to himself, ‘Jessi, if this is what you truly want… then I’ll grant you this. As long as you’re happy and well. That’s all that matters to me.‘

Brian bent down and gently tucked the blanket around Jessica, his movements tender and careful.

“What did you just say?”

Behind him, Simon stared in utter disbelief.

He couldn’t believe his ears.

“Did I hear that right? Just half an hour ago in court, you were arguing with me tooth and nail, swearing you’d never agree to a divorce. And now you suddenly change your tune? Brian, are you messing with us?”

If he had just agreed to the divorce earlier, maybe Jessi wouldn’t have ended up in the hospital at all.

Simon clenched his fists, barely holding back the urge to punch Brian right then.

“No… I truly don’t want to divorce Jessi. But her health comes first,” Brian replied, his voice hoarse with emotion.

If it were up to him, he’d never want to end their marriage.

“Of course, my agreement to the divorce comes with conditions.

Unfazed by Simon’s attitude, Brian pressed on.

“What are your terms?” Simon pressed.

As long as his terms weren’t too much, Jessica would probably agree. After all, she just wanted to get the divorce over with and finally be free from Brian.

A bitter smile touched Brian’s lips.

‘Jessi, is Simon’s stance also yours?‘ he wondered.

‘You’d really throw everything away just to divorce me?‘

Finally, he said, “Please, for Jessi’s health, try to persuade her to come home and take care of herself during her pregnancy. Even if she wants to leave after the baby is born, that’s perfectly fine with me.”
