Both of them frowned, thinking hard, but neither could figure out if liking sweets meant a brother or sister.

Still, Jacob wanted a sister. He didn’t like the idea of a little brother. Sisters were way better.

So he decided then and there he was going to buy Jessica something spicy and delicious. As for spicy snacks…

He remembered how Jessica wouldn’t let him eat too much junk food.

‘They must be really unhealthy,’ he thought.

So instead of buying spicy chips, Jacob went into his friends‘ group chat and asked around for spicy but healthy snacks.

But for now, he was going with Emilio to the northern district to buy some dried fruits for Jessica.

Emilio had brought some to school before; Jacob had tried both the sweet and sour kinds. They were delicious, and he loved them. Jessica would definitely like them too.

Meanwhile, Brian returned home.

After delivering lunch to Jessica, he came back early.

He didn’t even get to see her; the receptionist had taken the food up, just like before.

It was the same story in the evening, leaving him frustrated and completely baffled as to what on earth Jessica was so upset about this time.

He finally figured it out. Madeline had only gone to see Jessica because Jacob had called and summoned her.

So the moment Brian got home, he waited for Jacob to return from school. But one hour passed, then another, and still no sign of the kid.

When he called, Jacob’s smartwatch was dead, so he couldn’t get through. Only after calling the driver did he find out that Jacob had gone to the northern district to buy snacks for Jessica.

It was then that Brian realized that over the past few days, Jacob had been spending his pocket money on all sorts of pastries and such for Jessica, even asking Madeline to skip work and stand in line to buy them.

Brian thought to himself, ‘Well, damn… the kid already did all the sweet stuff. What’s left for me?‘

He felt a bit speechless as he listened to the driver’s report. These days, every popular delicacy in the neighborhood had been snapped up by Jacob and sent to Jessica.

‘Looks like I gotta step up my game…‘ Brian thought with a wry smile.

He tied on his apron and headed back into the kitchen. Lately, the more he delved into cooking, the more fascinated he became. While waiting for Jacob to return, he decided to master one more new dish to cook for Jessica in the future.

“Sylvie, could you run to the supermarket and pick up some groceries? Get some ribs first.”

“Sure thing!” Sylvie quickly called the driver and hurried out.

These days, her main tasks were looking after Jacob at night and keeping the fridge well–stocked during the day.

Other than preparing breakfast for Brian and his son, she rarely needed to cook the other meals.

At that moment, Jacob was at KFC with his buddy Emilio.

On the table were several neatly packaged paper bags, each filled with several kinds of dried fruits.
