Chapter 161

Chapter 161

Hey, Dad.Jacob felt guilty when he answered Brian’s call. Maddie had told him that adults hated it when kids let other things interfere with their

studies.

Jake, do you want to come with me tonight to bring dinner to Jessi?Brian figured Jacob hadn’t seen Jessica in two days and thought he’d take him along

No thanks, Dad. Just drop off Mom’s dinner and come right back. Don’t bother her too much.Jacob remembered to act considerate, telling Brian not to disturb her either. Being upset during pregnancy could affect how the baby grows.Being upset during pregnancy could affect how the baby grows.

Brian couldn’t help but laugh at Jacob’s words, but he was glad Jacob was looking out for Jessica.

After chatting briefly, Brian hung up. He grabbed the thermal containers and left Atkinson Villa.

Jacob had the driver take him to Grant Manor. Since Jessica wasn’t home, he didn’t dare stay long. He left the pastries and headed back to Atkinson Villa.

Knock, knock! The sound at the door startled Jessica from her blank stare in the office. She snapped back to reality.

Come in,” Jessica said.

An assistant from the executive office pushed open the door. Ms. Grant, Mr. Atkinson sent dinner for you.She placed two thermal containers on the desk and quietly withdrew.

Actually, everyone in the executive office was curious about Jessica and Brian’s relationship.

This curiosity grew, especially after he had initially sent those ridiculously expensive imported fruits daily.

The fruit deliveries had stopped, but now he was clearly putting more thought into it by sending three meals a day.

Some colleagues had even caught glimpses of Jessica dealing with morning sickness.

Jessica’s gaze lingered on the thermos for several minutes. She rose from her chair and walked to the floortoceiling windows, where she could see his car parked on the street outside the company entrance.

Her hand gently caressed her belly as Wesley’s words echoed in her mind. She’d only developed psychological issues from years of selfimposed repression. In reality, Brian had never betrayed her.

Something about confessing her troubles to Wesley had lifted a weight from her chest. The knot of anxiety that had been choking her for so long seemed

to loosen.

Before Jessica could secondguess herself, she found herself standing at the company entrance with the thermos in hand.

Brian sat in the driver’s seat, occasionally glancing up at the towering building as if he could somehow see Jessica on the twentyeighth floor.

As if sensing her presence, he instinctively looked toward the Grant Group entrance.

Their eyes met. Brian froze for a moment, then his eyes lit up as he quickly got out and strode toward Jessica.

Jessica caught every flicker of surprise and joy that crossed his face.

She stayed rooted to the spot, watching Brian’s long legs carry him toward her with barely contained urgency.

Jessi, is something wrong with the food?Brian assumed there was a problem with the meal he’d brought her.

Jessica didn’t know what had possessed her to appear before Brian with the food. She lowered her eyes slightly. I’m craving tacos
