Chapter 138
“Add oil and salt to the water, then blanch the whole stalks for two minutes. That gives the best texture, Madeline instructed while helpin finding curves to brush against Brian.
Brian didn’t even notice, assuming any contact was accidental.
Soon the porridge was ready. An even richer aroma than last night’s filled the kitchen as Brian personally transferred it into a thermos.
Madeline said, “Oh, there’s still some leht. Should we get another thermos?”
“No need. Jest won’t be able to eat that much anyway” Balan paused, then added, “Thanks for your help tonight. You can have the leftover porridge? As he spoke, he packed the thermos of vegetables into a bag along with the porridge
Brian glanced at the time, then called out to Sylvie in the kitchen. “Jake’s not back yet?”
It was already five thirty. Jacob should have walked home from school by now.
“Jake went to Mrs. Atkinson’s house.” Sylvie paused, then added, “Mr. Atkinson–I mentioned it to you earlier.”
Jacob had called earlier to say he was going to Grant Manor. Sylvie had told Brian about it, but he’d probably been too busy popping ingredients to hear
her.
Brian nodded slightly. Without waiting for Madeline to leave, he drove off to deliver the porridge to Jessica
Madeline hated Jessica with a passion, but she was also grateful for the opportunity Jessica had created. She’d gotten to spend time alone with Brian, even cooking a meal together.
Her eyes gleamed as she lad led out the remaining porridge and brought it to the dining table for a photo.
She posted on Instagram: [Can’t believe this is someone’s first attempt at making porridge. It’s absolutely delicious! So lucky to be the first to taste his cooking] The photo showed the bowl of rich sealood porridge in all its glory.
She also posted a public Instagram story with a simple caption: Never had seafood porridge this fresh before. It was vague enough that most people wouldn’t think twice about it. Only those in the know would understand.
Madeline smirked. “Let’s see if you can still stomach your food now, Jessical
At the thought of Brian eagerly bringing Jessica food, only to have the proud and aloof Jessica lose her temper and sweep the porridge all over the floor, Madeline couldn’t help but smirk. Even someone as patient as Brian wouldn’t be able to tolerate that.
The more Madeline imagined that scenario, the more delicious her porridge tasted
Too bad Jessica had already blocked her on Instagram.
At Grant Group, Jessica was just opening the thermal container sent from Grant Manor when she received a text from Brian: Come down for dinner.]
She glanced at it and didn’t want to respond. As she was about to toss her phone aside, another message came through. You have five minutes, or I’ll
bring it up to you.]
Their relationship had never been made public, and Jessica was about to divorce Brian soon. There was no need to make a big fuss about her marriage to Brian and let everyone know
