Chapter 130
After washing and drying his hands, Brian crouched down to Jacob’s level. “Jake, why would you think that! Daddy love you, and I’m you too.”
He spoke in a firm yet gentle lone, understanding the impact of Jessica’s absence over the past few days on Jacob.
“It’s just that Mommy’s pregnant now, and her emotions are all over the place. She doesn’t mean to get mad at you, but you also can’t mat
“Besides, Jake, you’re going to be a big brother. When Mommy has the batry, there’ll be one more person to love you!
Jacob’s eyes went wide, tears still clinging to his lashes. His voice cracked as he choked out the words, “I’m going to be a big brother”
And the baby would love him.
Even at his young age, Jacob already felt the weight of responsibility settling on his small shoulders.
Alt his jealousy disappeared. All that mattered now was that Jacob was going to be a big brother, and there would be another little baby who’d love him.
“That’s right, Jake’s gonna be a big brother. You’ll help Daddy take care of Mommy and Brian paused, unsure whether Jessica was carrying a boy or girl. “You’ll take care of your little sister, right?”
“Yeah! I’m the big brother I’ll take good care of my little sister” Jacob nodded enthusiastically, his eyes shining so bright it looked like he wanted to run off right then and there to take care of Jessica and his little sister.
As Jacob spoke, a snot bubble popped from his nose.
Brian chuckled and asked Sylvie to take Jacob to wash his face.
Once Brian finished cooking, he’d bring the food to Jessica and take Jacob along to see Jessica.
Brian made another unsuccessful attempt at cooking.
Watching the clock approach seven, Brian felt frustrated, worried that Jessica wouldn’t eat his home–cooked meal tonight.
Brian remembered how Jessica had devoured her porridge with such appetite this morning
Cooking wasn’t his strong suit, but porridge seemed simple enough.
Jessica’s recipe book had several porridge recipes bookmarked
Brian flipped through the pages and found the simplest one–vegetable porridge.
Following the instructions, Brian washed the rice and put it in the pot to simmer for an hour until the grains turned thick and creamy. Once the porridge started bubbling, he kept stirring to prevent sticking. The recipe said to add the vegetables ten minutes before serving
Sylvie finished helping Jacob wash his face and came into the kitchen to assist while preparing their own dinner.
She watched Brian work, occasionally offering guidance. “Turn the heat down a bit,” Sylvie suggested, then added, “Chop some ginger and toss it in too.”
An hour later, Brian added the chopped greens to the pot. The kitchen was filled with the comforting aroma of creamy rice mingled with fresh vegetables.
“Just add half a teaspoon of salt and let it cook for ten more minutes, Brian said, exhaling deeply as if he’d just completed an impossible task. “Is Jessica
still at the office?”
“Yes,” Jackson replied on the other end of the phone. “But she just finished her dinner.”

Brian hung up without a word, Well, at least it could serve as a late–night shack.
