“Mom, I go to the hospital for checkups every few days. I’m perfectly healthy,” Jessica reassured Stella. Jessica’s eyes flickered slightly, not wanting Stella to worry too much about her condition

“Really?” Stella pressed.

“Really” Jessica flexed her a

arm playfully. “Morning sickness is normal. Just let it be. eat more to make up for it.”

Stella hesitantly believed her, though she couldn’t shake the feeling that Jessica looked thinner.

But when you see someone every day, especially someone like Jessica, who was already slim to begin with, losing a few pounds wasn’t that noticeable.

Stella headed downstairs and asked May to prepare some dishes and soup to keep on hand, just in case Jessica got hungry during the night.

Once everyone had left the room, Jessica lay on the bed, her face pale and drawn. All her strength had drained away.

Clutching her stomach, Jessica couldn’t understand why the morning sickness was hitting her so hard this time. Compared to when she was pregnant with Jacob, nausea came more frequently and with much greater intensity. I’d better go to the hospital tomorrow, she thought.
