“I love you so much! How could you do this to me?”
“Don’t you have a heart, Penelope?”
“You’ve completely destroyed my trust!”
Zebulon’s voice cracked with each accusation, a perfect portrayal of a deeply wronged lover.
But it was all an act.
Penelope’s eyes hardened. She drove her knee sharply into his abdomen. As his grip loosened in a gasp of pain, she spun and delivered a powerful kick to his chest, sending him sprawling to the ground.
The two moves were swift and brutal. She dusted off her hands, a smirk of pure contempt on her face.
“Zebulon, you were cheating on me with Rebecca long enough to get her pregnant, and you have the audacity to accuse me of betrayal?”
He stared at her in disbelief. “You hit me!”
“You had your hands around my neck! You were trying to kill me!”
“I was just angry!”
“So? If you had actually strangled me to death, should I have explained to the police that you just got a little carried away? That it was my own fault for making you mad?”
“Penelope!”
“You want another round?” she taunted. A physical fight was much easier than a war of words. Her self-defense training hadn’t been for nothing.
“You’re really seeing another man?”
“What about Rebecca?”
“I’m asking you a question!”
“I’m not asking, I’m telling you: when you’re covered in your own filth, you don’t get to judge anyone else.”
“It was just about the baby! Why can’t you understand that?”
“I can’t.”
“The Sullivan family has a huge business empire! We need an heir! As the woman I love, you should be thinking about what’s best for me and my family!”
