The Wife You Buried Is Back from Hell novel Chapter 949

The streetlight cast long, silent shadows behind them, the only sound the distant hum of traffic.

After a long moment, Alexander frowned.

“I don’t care who you get close to, but not Harold.”

Danielle let out a low, humorless laugh. “You’ve said that before. Back then, you said it could be anyone but Nathan Davidson.”

Alexander's frown deepened, his eyes dark as ink under the dim light. His tone grew heavy.

“That’s different.”

“How is it different?” Danielle pressed, but before he could answer, Lorie’s voice cut through the air.

“Alex, thank you for dropping me off. And for waiting for me here.”

Danielle turned to see Lorie walking out of the apartment building, carrying a chic handbag and wearing a gentle smile.

When Lorie saw Danielle, she paused, her expression shifting to one of surprise. “Chief Engineer Crawford? You live in this complex too? What a coincidence!”

Danielle looked from Lorie to Alexander, and everything clicked into place.

He wasn’t waiting for her to ask about the conference. He was just dropping Lorie off and happened to run into her.

His seemingly concerned question was nothing more than a casual remark born from coincidence.

Suppressing a surge of bitter irony, she ignored Alexander, gave Lorie a brief nod, and turned to toss the trash bag into the bin. Then, she walked straight towards the building entrance.

She didn’t pause, as if the two people behind her were nothing more than insignificant strangers.

Alexander watched her resolute back, his fists clenching unconsciously as a wave of inexplicable frustration washed over him.

Lorie walked to his side and looped her arm through his, asking softly, “What’s wrong? What were you and Chief Engineer Crawford talking about?”

Danielle’s heart clenched, as if something had gently squeezed it.

She took a deep breath.

After a moment of silence, she knelt to be at eye level with Niki. She gently stroked her daughter's soft hair and, after another pause, spoke in a slow, soft voice.

“Daddy is going to have his own life, just like Mommy and Niki have our own little life together now.”

“Does that mean Daddy won’t come to see me anymore?”

Niki’s eyes welled up with tears, her little hand gripping tighter. “I was happy that Uncle Harold came to the conference today, but… I wanted Daddy to come too…”

Danielle pulled Niki into a hug, gently patting her back, her voice filled with heartache. “No, that’s not true. Daddy will always be Niki’s daddy. He will come to see you.”

“And no matter what happens, Mommy will always be with you, Niki. I’ll never leave you.”
