Danielle remained silent.
Hold set down his coffee cup, his fingertips tracing the rim as he glanced at Danielle’s tense profile. “Chief Engineer Crawford, a man like Alexander isn’t worth holding onto,” he said lightly.
Her hand, holding her fork, paused. Without looking up, she said softly, “Mr. Chapman, let’s discuss the investment details. I have to submit a report to the main office this afternoon.”
She was deliberately changing the subject, unwilling to get entangled in personal matters—especially not with Harold, a man who had shown interest in her since they first met at the hot springs resort and always made her feel on edge.
But Harold wasn't going to follow her lead. He leaned forward slightly, his gaze fixed on her.
“As for the project, my team has already worked out most of the details with the Aerospace Institute. As soon as you give the word, the funds can be transferred next week.”
“But I didn’t ask you here today just to talk about work.”
He paused, his voice softening. “Danielle, I know you have your reservations right now, and I know you haven’t moved on from your past relationship.”
“But you need to understand, I can give you the stability Alexander can’t, the respect he won’t, and the devotion he’ll never offer.”
“We can be partners, and not just on this project.”
Hold’s voice was low and steady. “While you handle the technical R&D at the Aerospace Institute, I can build a broader platform for you, bring in the most advanced equipment and teams, and help you commercialize your research faster.”
“And in your personal life, I can give you and Niki a stable home, a place where you’ll never have to feel wronged again.”
She finally looked up and met Harold’s gaze. His deep eyes were filled with sincerity, without a hint of jest.
Danielle took a deep breath, her fingertips turning cold. She knew how tempting Harold’s offer was—it was a rare opportunity for both her career and her life with Niki.
