The Wife You Buried Is Back from Hell novel Chapter 861

As he spiraled in a vortex of self-loathing, the door creaked open.

Alexander’s body tensed. Assuming it was a nurse coming to change his IV, he didn’t move. But then, the familiar, comforting aroma of food wafted into the room, and he froze.

He slowly, stiffly, turned his head. Danielle was standing by his bed, holding two large bags.

His lips parted, but the words wouldn’t come. He felt like he couldn’t get enough air.

Danielle simply placed the food on the bedside table and began unpacking it, her movements as natural and easy as if she were in her own home.

“I figured you hadn’t eaten, so I bought some of your favorites,” she said. “The doctor said you need to build up your strength, so please try to eat something.”

She opened a thermos, and the rich scent of pork rib soup filled the room. She ladled a small bowl and offered it to him, her eyes soft with a cautious hope. “Have some soup to warm your stomach. It’s not too hot.”

Alexander looked from the bowl to the sincerity in her eyes, and something inside him shifted, a feeling both sharp and tender. He opened his mouth, but his throat was tight, and he couldn’t speak. The heavy feeling in his chest only grew worse.

He had treated her so horribly, yet she had come back.

When he didn’t take the bowl, Danielle didn’t press him. She set it on the table, picked up a fork, and carefully flaked a piece of fish, placing it on a small plate.

“The fish is very tender. Try it. If it’s too bland, I can get you some soy sauce.”
