“So, you knew about her status all along, didn’t you?”

Alexander took a quiet sip of his whiskey, remaining silent.

“Seems like you really don’t care anymore,” Keegan continued.

“Care about what?” Alexander asked coolly.

“Danielle.” Keegan’s tone was probing. “After all, you two were married for years, and then suddenly—out of nowhere—you got divorced. No one even heard a whisper about it until it was all over.”

Alexander let out a short laugh, unconcerned. “When did I ever care?”

Keegan fell silent for a moment.

When he put it that way, there wasn’t much to argue with. Anyone who’d watched Alexander and Danielle together would have said their marriage was all convenience and no real affection—just two people playing their parts. Most people didn’t even know they’d been married at all until Millie’s scandal exploded and everything came to light.

Keegan leaned in. “If you want to be so blunt, then I have to ask: If you never cared about her, why did you marry her in the first place? And why stay married all these years—and even have a daughter with her?”

Alexander listened, his expression unreadable, swirling the whiskey in his glass before finally raising his eyes to Keegan.

“You’ve never shown any interest in my personal life before.”

Keegan shrugged. “A remarkable woman attracts everyone’s attention. I’ve heard your brother even has feelings for her. And since we’re friends, I’d like to know where you stand.”

Alexander narrowed his eyes slightly, watching him. “So?”

No point beating around the bush—both men understood the rules of this game.

Liam started to protest, “But I’m not the only one—Millie—”

Keegan cut him off. “You’ve seen what happened to Millie. If you weren’t his uncle, do you really think your fate would be any better than hers?”

“You… you saw all this coming, but you never warned me. Now I know why you never took my side when I tried to tell you Danielle wasn’t the woman she seemed to be.”
