The Wife You Buried Is Back from Hell novel Chapter 583

Nathan gazed at Niki, the gentle smile never leaving his lips. His eyes held nothing but warmth and affection.

He bent down and scooped her into his arms. “Up you go.”

“Are you awake yet?”

A calm, unhurried male voice drifted in from the doorway. “Since when did my big brother start collecting daughters?”

At the sound of those words, Niki—curled up in Nathan’s embrace—snapped fully awake. She blinked uncertainly, finally realizing who was holding her, and her gaze turned shy and wary.

Nathan looked at her and said, “She fell asleep. It’s normal for a kid to get confused and grab the wrong person.”

Alexander’s expression didn’t flicker. He hardly seemed to care about the scene at all. “As long as you’re happy, Nathan.”

He turned to leave without another word.

Nathan, still holding Niki, called after him, “Don’t you want to come over and hold your daughter?”

Niki clung tightly to Nathan’s neck, biting her lip as she shook her head. “No, I only want Uncle Nathan to hold me.”

Alexander pretended not to hear and walked out, never breaking stride.

Nathan looked down at Niki. “Niki, don’t you like your dad?”

She shook her head.

“It’s not that,” she murmured. “Dad doesn’t like me. So now, I don’t like him either.”

Nathan’s eyes softened with concern. He ruffled her hair. “That’s all right. Uncle Nathan will always love you.”

A sweet smile spread across Niki’s face. “Okay!”

Nathan carried Niki downstairs, right in front of everyone.

The sight of them—Nathan’s arms around the little girl, the two sharing such similar features—radiated a gentle, familial warmth. To an outsider, they could have easily passed for father and daughter.

“They look so much alike. Anyone would think she really was his daughter,” someone whispered amid the gathering.

“Well, maybe she is,” another muttered. “Alexander’s never shown the least bit of interest in that child.”

At that, the elderly matriarch shot a frosty glare in their direction. The gossipers immediately fell silent.

Bianca watched Niki come down the stairs, her heart twisting with a tangle of emotions she couldn’t name.

The grandson she had showered with every ounce of her love, it turned out, shared no blood with her at all.

Now, Niki was the only child left to carry on the Davidson family name.

She realized, with a pang, that she’d never really paid much attention to Niki—who’d always been quiet and timid, never the type to win anyone’s favor. All her care and expectations had been poured into the heir she’d thought would lead the family.

No wonder her granddaughter felt so distant from her.

Bianca’s throat tightened as she watched Niki, a wave of helpless regret washing over her. Had she really let this little girl suffer so much over the years?

But she hadn’t been wrong—she’d always been on Danielle’s side, always trying to make her happy.

Closing her eyes, the old woman let out a long breath, heavy with regret.

“Dani, go on,” she said softly.

Go pursue your new life.

Danielle led Niki out.

Niki looked up at her. “Mom, is it true? Is my brother really not Dad’s biological son?”

Danielle stroked her hair. “That’s right.”

After everything Niki had witnessed today, there was no point in hiding the truth.

Niki was still young, but the whole situation left her baffled. Dad had always doted on her brother—how could they not be related?

“But, even if they’re not related by blood, they’ve been through so much together. My teacher always says it’s love that matters, not blood. Does not sharing blood mean they can’t be father and son? Why is Dad sending him away?”

Her mind was a whirl of confusion.

Danielle pressed her lips together, unsure how to explain such complicated matters to a child.

In the end, she could only say, “Some things you’ll understand when you’re older. If you ever have questions, you can always ask me, okay? But for now, it’s just too much to explain.”
