The Wife You Buried Is Back from Hell novel Chapter 1036

The next day after school, Niki slung her backpack over her shoulder and skipped cheerfully toward the sporting goods store near her school.

The little piggy bank pouch in her pocket felt heavy, the cash folded neatly at the bottom. It was the money her mother had given her for sports day gear. She’d counted it three times last night just to be sure before tucking it away safely.

When she reached the store’s entrance, Niki stopped and reached into her pocket, only to find it empty. Her heart dropped. She quickly shrugged off her backpack and frantically searched every compartment—the pencil case, notebooks, picture books… everything was there except for the folded stack of cash.

Niki’s face went white, tears welling up in her eyes. She remembered putting the money in the outer pocket of her backpack that morning. How could it be gone? Did it fall out on the way, or had someone taken it?

She stood at the entrance, stomping her foot in frustration as an image of her mother’s gentle smile flashed through her mind. Her mom was so busy, yet she’d made a point to give her cash to buy things herself. Now she’d lost it. Would her mom be angry?

“What’s wrong?” a familiar voice asked from behind her.

Niki turned to see Raffy standing nearby, holding an ice cream and looking at her. After their unhappy parting yesterday afternoon, Niki hadn't expected to speak to him again. Seeing him now, she instinctively took a step back, her lips pressed together in silence.

Raffy walked over and noticed her red-rimmed eyes and the messy state of her overturned backpack. Guessing what had happened, he asked softly, “Did you lose your money?”

Niki didn’t nod or shake her head. She just bit her lip, fighting back tears.
