The Wife You Buried Is Back from Hell novel Chapter 1035

“You're the one who didn't want Mom. And Mom said she doesn't want to see you.” The past was still fresh in Niki's mind. He had kept saying Mom was a bad stepmom who wasn't nice to him.

Raffy's face flushed red, and his eyes grew moist. He sniffled, his voice cracking. “I know I made a bad choice before. I was… I was fooled.”

He hesitated, reaching for Niki's hand, but she stepped back, avoiding his touch.

“Niki, you're my sister. We grew up together. We're in first grade now. Don't you believe me?”

Niki looked up, her round eyes serious. “I don't believe you. And I'm not going to do anything that makes Mom sad.”

Niki bit her lip and continued, “Dad doesn't even want you anymore. Why do you think Mom would want to see you?”

“Weren't you the one who kept saying she was a mean stepmom? You're only coming back now not because you suddenly had a change of heart, but because your life isn't so great anymore and you regret it, right?”

“And another thing,” Niki added, as if just remembering. “Uncle Chapman has money, too. Isn't he nice to you? Dad said Uncle Chapman's family has a huge house with a swimming pool and lots of pretty dresses. Didn't you used to love all that?”

The color drained from Raffy's face, shifting from red to white, then to a sickly pale. He clenched his fists, and the tears welling in his eyes finally fell, splashing onto the pavement and creating a small, dark patch.

“You always think the worst of people!” he sobbed before turning and running away. His small figure quickly disappeared down the school path, the little bear keychain on his backpack bouncing as if in sympathy with his hurt.

Niki stood there, watching him go, a knot of discomfort tightening in her own stomach. She knew her words might have been too harsh, but she didn't want her mom to be sad again.

Niki sighed.
