Jeremy marched right up to them. His eyes flicked down to Max's iron grip on Felicia's wrist before locking onto the other man's face. Max narrowed his dark eyes, his presence turning lethal. In a split second, the air around them seemed to freeze solid.
"You arrived right on time," Max said, his voice laced with frost. "Someone is spreading rumors about your relationship with Felicia. Perhaps you should clarify things with her, lest you ruin her reputation."
Felicia's face was stormy. Hearing the threat in his voice, Mrs. Higgins felt a wave of absolute panic. Her face drained of color, and she frantically turned to flee.
Max noticed her movement. "Stop right there."
The older woman trembled violently. Jeremy turned his gaze on her as well. Under the crushing pressure of both men staring her down, she felt like she might collapse. She forced a terrified, apologetic smile. "I... I just got thw wrong idea! I saw them coming and going together all the time, so naturally, my mind just went there."
Max shifted his attention back to Jeremy. "Should you not explain yourself?"
Jeremy looked back at him without missing a beat. "You and Felicia are divorced. Who she spends time with and what people assume is no longer your concern. I have absolutely no obligation to explain anything to you."
Their auras clashed, neither man willing to yield an inch. Max's face noticeably darkened, and he let out a bitter sneer. "You are quite full of yourself."
"That is enough, Max," Felicia snapped.
