Darin paused with his spoon in midair. "I do not associate with him." He had crossed paths with Kennedy in the past because of Max, but their connection was shallow. They rarely interacted in private. The thought of Felicia's pregnancy surfaced, specifically the time Kennedy had deliberately tripped her. His grip on the spoon tightened, and his expression darkened.
Noticing the shift in his mood, Savannah did not press the issue. "Good."
Darin stayed quiet, quietly eating his meal. After a brief silence, Savannah asked, "Is it good?"
"It is fine," Darin replied.
"Let me try some," Savannah said. Darin froze, turning to look at her, but before he could protest, Savannah leaned over, took the very spoon he had been using, and scooped a bite into her own mouth. She chewed thoughtfully. "It really is quite good."
Darin simply stared at her. Savannah met his gaze. "What? Do you have a virus or something?" Darin did not answer.
Just then, a noise came from the hospital room. Darin set his food down and walked back in, finding Max awake and getting out of bed. "Need the restroom?"
Looking incredibly frail, Max gave a weak hum of agreement. Darin stepped forward to grab the IV bag, reaching out to support him. Max pulled away. "Do you think I am that fragile?"
Darin looked at him and shoved the IV bag into his hand. "Fine. You are a man of steel, so hold it yourself."
Instead of taking it, Max reached over and yanked the needle right out of his hand, leaving a trail of blood as he strode toward the bathroom. Darin watched him go, making no move to stop him.
When Max emerged, he looked at Darin. "We should head back."
