Darin sat across from her. "They will send someone over within the next two days."
Felicia's fingers tightened slightly, and she gave a slow nod. Just as she was about to ask another question, her phone vibrated. Seeing the butler's number, she quickly answered. The butler's somber voice informed her that the search and rescue team had recovered belongings belonging to the victims, and they needed her at the center for identification.
Her heart violently seized in her chest. "Okay," she whispered. When she lowered her phone, all the color had drained from her face.
Darin looked at her carefully, having overheard the butler's grave message. "Let Jeremy accompany you, Felicia."
Felicia nodded numbly. Just then, Terry knocked and entered the office. Holden had sent representatives over to negotiate.
Darin turned to Felicia. "Go ahead, Felicia. I will deal with them." He then looked at Jeremy. "Please take good care of her."
Jeremy nodded, and the two of them quickly left the office.
Throughout the car ride, Felicia remained entirely silent. Jeremy cast a worried glance at her profile but ultimately chose to say nothing. When they finally arrived at the search and rescue center, the entire building was drenched in a suffocating, deeply depressing atmosphere.
They were led into a quiet room where the recovered personal items of the victims were neatly laid out on a long table. Felicia examined the items one by one. The air in the room seemed to thin out, suffocating her, until her eyes landed on a familiar tie.
In an instant, she froze in her tracks. Following her gaze, Jeremy saw the tie. He watched as the last remnants of color drained from Felicia's face. "Felicia," he called out softly, but she remained entirely unresponsive.
A nearby staff member stepped forward cautiously. "Have you recognized something?"
