The Ugly Wife’s Stunning Comeback novel Chapter 901

Before Felicia could formulate a reply, another message from Max lit up the screen.

[If you feel uncomfortable about anything, you can tell me directly. Problems can only be solved if they are spoken aloud.]

Felicia stared at his sober, entirely rational words. He was always like this, a man whose logic forever outweighed his emotions. He was stating a fact she could not deny, yet a strange, indescribable heaviness settled in her chest.

[I do not have any concerns,] she typed back carefully. [But we do not have any emotional foundation between us. It is impossible for us to suddenly become intimately close.]

Max immediately called her. Startled, she stared at the glowing screen for a few seconds before finally pressing the answer button and bringing the phone to her ear.

"No feelings for me?" his deep, magnetic voice resonated through the speaker.

Felicia froze, her grip tightening on the phone. After a long moment of silence, she countered softly. "What do you think?"

Max let out a low, rumbling chuckle. "So slow to warm up. But it does not matter. When I get back, we will take our time and cultivate those feelings. We will cultivate them wherever you feel most comfortable."

His last sentence carried a distinctly suggestive, teasing lilt. A flush of heat instantly rushed to Felicia's cheeks, and her fingers curled tighter against the edge of the device.

His voice continued smoothly, carrying a tone of false concern. "Does your body crave it when you sleep at night?"

Felicia squeezed her eyes shut. "Max, what are you talking about?"

"This concerns our future harmonious life together," he replied, sounding entirely natural. "It is a necessary topic to discuss to improve our relationship. We are both adults, and considering we have already been intimate several times, there is no need to avoid the subject or feel embarrassed. Anyway, I want you right now. I have not even asked how you enjoyed the experience."

Listening to him discuss the matter with such calm composure, Felicia took a deep, steadying breath to rein in her flustered emotions. "You certainly are experienced at this," she said coldly.

Felicia adjusted her seatbelt with a smile. "How much could I change in such a short time? You, on the other hand, look absolutely glowing. Someone is certainly riding the spring breeze of success."

Greg kept his eyes on the road ahead as he smoothly accelerated out of the airport drop-off zone. A faint smile graced his lips. "Is it that obvious? Things have been progressing very smoothly at work lately."

Felicia raised a teasing eyebrow. "Are things only going smoothly at work?"

Greg shot her a sideways glance. "You are Heather's chief strategist. Why are you asking me?"

Felicia laughed lightly. "I am hardly a strategist. She just does whatever she wants and gives me a heads-up beforehand. Then she reports her battlefield victories to me."

Since Trey had returned to America, Heather and Greg's relationship had stabilized beautifully. Things had fallen into place naturally, without force or hesitation. Heather's evaluation of Greg was straightforward: he was a typical tech guy, appearing mature and serious on the outside, but underneath, he was a pure-hearted romantic. A little bit of romance was enough to completely overwhelm him. She had declared him incredibly easy to woo.
