Jeremy took Felicia to a nearby restaurant overlooking a picturesque park and lake. They sat by the window, letting the beautiful scenery soothe their spirits.
After they ordered, Jeremy looked across the table at Felicia. "You didn't sleep well last night, did you?" He could easily see past the makeup she had carefully applied to hide her pale complexion and the dull, exhausted look in her eyes.
Felicia did not try to deny it. "No, I didn't. My mind is a mess, and I just feel so incredibly tired." She felt like she was on the verge of losing her mind. She had no idea what to do or how to move forward, feeling as though she failed at absolutely everything. Why did she have to endure so much pain? Her mother had abandoned her when she was a child, her marriage had brought her nothing but agony, and now she felt like a burdensome weight on everyone she cared about. Why was the world so cruel to her?
Seeing the tears pooling in her eyes, Jeremy stood up and moved to the empty seat beside her. He reached out as if to embrace her, but ultimately settled for gently grasping her hand. Felicia's entire body stiffened at the contact.
"Don't let your thoughts spiral, Felicia," Jeremy's deep, steady voice murmured close to her ear. "You haven't done anything wrong, and no one is blaming you. We all just want to see you get better. Please don't be so hard on yourself. You've pulled yourself out of the dark before, and you can absolutely do it again. Life is long, and no one gets a perfectly smooth, happy ride all the way through. Everyone carries pain they can't speak of, but we all keep pushing forward as best as we can because there is still so much road ahead. Don't trap yourself in this temporary hardship. You have to remember you're not alone. You have family and friends who love you, and we will be right here with you until you heal."
Listening to his comforting words, Felicia tightened her fingers and nodded firmly. "I know."
A short distance away, a hidden figure snapped a photo of them. The angle was deliberately chosen to obscure their facial expressions, making the casual moment look like an intimate embrace between lovers.
Once Felicia had calmed down, Jeremy returned to his seat across the table.
"Well, if it isn't Jeremy and Evelynn. What a coincidence seeing you two here." Holden strolled over to their table, with Andrea clinging affectionately to his arm. They looked like the ideal couple.
Holden's gaze shifted to Felicia. "You've lost quite a bit of weight, Evelynn. Are you sick?"
Felicia kept her face entirely blank, refusing to even look at him as she picked up her cup and took a slow sip of tea.
