After resting for a full day, Felicia felt significantly lighter.
It was not until noon the next day that she finally had the energy to head to the office and handle her work.
As soon as she arrived, Mason came in to report. The client from a project she had recently taken over found out about the impending personnel change and requested a meeting with her.
Since the project was already halfway done, a sudden change in leadership required a proper explanation.
Felicia called the client, and after a brief discussion, the other party suggested meeting in person.
Felicia agreed immediately. "Alright, it will be my treat. When are you available?" She figured it was the perfect opportunity to introduce the new project manager to them.
"Let us make it today at half past two. I happen to have some business near the Nancy Ridge Golf Club anyway."
"That works."
Felicia prepared on short notice, asking Mason to call in the head of the Second Investment Department. She explained the situation in detail and told him to get ready.
At exactly two-twenty, their group arrived at the golf course.
Felicia contacted the client and began walking toward the main lobby. From a distance, she heard a voice crying out in sheer desperation, accompanied by the terrified sobs of a child.
"Mr. Hawthorne, I am begging you. Please spare my husband this once."
Felicia stopped in her tracks. Near the lobby entrance, a woman was kneeling at Max's feet, desperately clinging to his leg. A little girl, barely ten years old, stood beside her, wailing uncontrollably.
Max looked down, his eyes filled with pure irritation.
Staff members rushed forward to pull the woman away as she continued her frantic pleas.
Max turned and strode away with cold indifference. Just as he was about to get into his car, he looked up and spotted Felicia standing nearby. His footsteps faltered for a second.
Felicia averted her gaze and continued walking straight toward the lobby.
