Felicia said, "I will go over today's interview questions with the deputy editor one more time."
Colt replied, "Alright. Just a heads up, Holden is known to be difficult to talk to. Keep your guard up later, Evelynn."
"I know," she replied.
Twenty minutes later, the interview officially began.
Right before the cameras rolled, Colt gave Felicia a few last words of advice. He stayed off to the side to supervise.
Felicia offered Holden a polite handshake. "Hello."
Holden stared at Felicia. His intense gaze filled her with absolute disgust, but she forced her emotions down.
Holden reached out and grasped her hand. It was meant to be a brief exchange, but just as Felicia tried to pull away, Holden tightened his grip. Felicia stiffened. He released her moments later, a smile curving his lips. "Your hands are freezing. You do not look well. Are you feeling alright?"
Felicia ignored his comment. "Please take a seat, Holden."
Their microphones had not yet been turned on, so their brief exchange remained strictly between them.
Holden sat down on the sofa with the demeanor of a perfectly even tempered man.
Sitting at a professional distance, Felicia turned on her microphone and dove straight into the interview.
Today's topics focused heavily on value investing and macro hedging.
To Felicia's surprise, Holden was extremely cooperative. The first twenty minutes went incredibly smoothly, and her energy levels held up just fine. As time dragged on, however, her mental stamina began to rapidly deplete. Waves of agonizing headaches washed over her, and her reaction time slowed drastically.
"It seems you really are not feeling well, Evelynn. Should we take a short break before continuing?" Holden asked kindly.
Felicia looked at him and replied in a flat tone. "Thank you for the offer, Holden, but we can continue."
Holden held her gaze and said nothing more.
Watching from the sidelines, Colt had also noticed that Felicia's condition was deteriorating. She had looked a bit low on energy earlier, but now it was obvious she was genuinely ill.
Just then, Colt's phone buzzed.
He pulled it out and felt his heart leap into his throat when he saw the caller ID. He hurried outside to answer it, his voice instantly respectful. "Mr. Hawthorne."
The line was silent for several seconds.
Right at that moment, a staff member burst through the doors. "Colt, Evelynn just fell ill."
Colt's face drained of color. His hand froze around the phone. "Mr. Hawthorne, I need to go check on Evelynn. I will call you back shortly."
Max gave a low murmur of acknowledgment.
Felicia had been able to tolerate the initial bouts of her headache, but the pain had eventually become utterly unbearable.
Holden reached out to steady her, but Felicia recoiled violently. "Do not touch me."
The surrounding crew members jumped in shock.
Holden's expression remained perfectly unreadable.
One of the staff members snapped out of their daze and rushed forward to support Felicia.
Colt hurried inside and took in the scene. He immediately ordered his team to rush Evelynn to the nearest hospital, then marched over to Holden to offer his deepest apologies.
