In the eyes of the public, the two of them were now a single entity. Max had quite a few rivals, and someone with an agenda would certainly use this matter to stir up drama. It would inevitably affect him.
Felicia looked at the man in front of her. But Max would never be afraid of people talking about him. There was likely no one brave enough to offend him openly.
"Have I not been gossiped about enough? I truly do not care about my dignity."
Max's expression remained unchanged as he listened to her. "Felicia, I hope you understand one thing right now. Your behavior no longer represents just you alone."
"When you made it public, did it never occur to you that you and I are not even on the same page?" Felicia asked.
"Whether we are on the same page or not, your current status cannot be changed."
Felicia stared at him intently and spoke slowly. "It seems to me that you are quite willing to accept Olisha. She is innocent and submissive, listening to everything you say and following your every command. As for looks, she is younger and prettier than Andrea. At the very least, your body has accepted her before your heart."
Back in Australia, he had acted like a completely different person, as if a wild monster were thrashing around inside him. Was that not all because of Olisha?
He was a normal man, after all, with a physique even stronger than most.
Her words hung in the air.
Max suddenly stood up, striding around the desk to stand right in front of Felicia. Seeing the man approach, Felicia instinctively took a step back.
He suddenly reached out to stop her retreat, effortlessly pinning her against the front of the desk.
"You..."
"You love Anne so much and cannot let her go, and still refuse to give her a stable family environment. Now you want to leave her behind without a word to settle in Cloudville for work. If you are going to abandon her, why are you so unwilling to let Anne accept someone else? Felicia, what exactly do you want?"
Every word the man spoke felt like a knife plunging into Felicia's heart. The color drained from her face little by little. She tried desperately to control her emotions and argued back, "I am not abandoning Anne!"
She wanted to explain further, but facing Max, there was no need for explanations.
Max's piercing gaze remained fixed on the woman before him, as if trying to see right through her. Felicia could not bear the intense, oppressive weight of his stare. She pushed him away and walked quickly toward the study door.
Max stood where he was, making no move to stop her. He simply watched the woman's panicked retreat.
Felicia returned to her room and slammed the door shut. Leaning back against the solid wood, she gasped for air. She tilted her head to look at the ceiling, her body sliding down the door until she crouched on the floor. Her heart felt as though it was crushed under a heavy boulder, leaving her barely able to breathe.
