Seeing Darin walk into the event didn’t catch anyone off guard. As soon as he arrived, a crowd formed to welcome him. The Lisbon family incident had really put his skill and determination on full display for everyone to see.
After greeting a few people, Darin scanned the room and quickly spotted Jeremy and Felicia. He made his way over, pausing first to shake hands with a few BlueMarble Investments executives. Then he turned to Jeremy and Felicia.
“Mr. Milman. Evelynn.”
Jeremy shook his hand. “Mr. Foxhall.”
It was clear the two had something to talk about.
Sensing this, the BlueMarble team politely excused themselves and wandered off. As they walked away, one of them glanced back with a hint of confusion.
“Why do Darin and Jeremy look so close all of a sudden?”
Everyone knew Darin’s history with Mr. Hawthorne. Getting so friendly with someone from Roen Capital just didn’t add up.
“I don’t know, maybe it’s just small talk.”
The event ran until about five thirty and, by the time it wrapped up, everyone agreed it was a success. The highlight for most people was Darin’s sharp, captivating speech.
No matter what anyone thought of him personally, there was no denying his business talent. Felicia admired that about him. During their interview, they’d kept things professional, and the whole conversation went by smoothly.
When everything ended, Colt found Felicia for a quick chat.
“Evelynn, do you know Mr. Foxhall outside of work or something?”
Felicia looked at him, puzzled. “Why do you ask?”
Colt didn’t hesitate. “The way he talks to you is different. He’s so much more polite than he was last year. Back then, when you interviewed him, it was like a totally different person.”
Last year, Felicia had embarrassed both Darin and Max in public, picking a fight with two of the biggest names in the industry. Even with Jeremy backing her up, that usually wouldn’t be enough. Anyone else would’ve been frozen out of the business. Yet somehow, Darin’s attitude had only grown warmer.
Colt couldn’t help but wonder if Evelynn had another side to her, something powerful no one else knew.
Felicia just smiled. “Now that you mention it, I’m curious myself.”
She sounded genuine, not like she was hiding anything.
