Ava smiled warmly. “That’s settled, then. You just focus on getting stronger. I’ll make all your favorite dishes every day.”

Jeremy tried to protest, but he couldn’t turn down her kindness. “Ava, that’s really too much. You don’t have to go to all that trouble.”

She waved him off. “Don’t say that.”

After lunch, Colton and Ava didn't want to overstay. They gave Jeremy a few more gentle reminders to rest, then Felicia walked them out.

At the door, Ava turned to Felicia. “Felicia, you need to look after Jeremy, all right? We honestly owe him so much after what happened.”

She didn’t know exactly what had gone down, but just thinking about it made her uneasy.

Felicia nodded. “I know, Mom. I’ll take care of him.”

That evening, a male nurse was hired to stay with Jeremy, so Felicia caught a cab back home.

She stepped out of the car and spotted a familiar Rolls-Royce parked by the gate. Frowning, she headed up the path toward the house.

As she reached the door, Max came out, almost bumping into her.

He stepped closer. “You’re back.”

From inside, Felicia heard Anne’s cheerful voice.

Max explained, “Anne wanted to stay with you tonight, so I brought her over.”

Felicia remembered Anne’s call earlier that day. Anne had insisted on coming home, knowing her mom wasn’t at Oakridge Estate. She wanted to be with Felicia at the Ross house.

Felicia kept her tone even, meeting Max’s gaze. “Max, we’re not at a point where you need to do me any favors. You don’t have to get involved in my life. Just take care of yourself. Anne can stay here for a couple of days.”

She didn’t wait for a reply and walked into the entryway.

Anne spotted her and ran over, flinging herself into Felicia’s arms. “Mommy!”

Felicia dropped to her knees and hugged Anne tight. She had missed her so much these past few days.
