He didn’t say anything else and just walked away. But as he was about to leave, Yvonne called out, “Your sister's gone through so much. Darin, you care about Andrea so much. Don’t you think you should stand up for her?”
Darin stopped in his tracks and looked back at his mother, his voice steady and serious. “Who do you think I should go after? Max? Trey? Jeremy? Or maybe Max’s wife?”
Yvonne’s face was stern as she stared at him. “Darin, is it always just your own interests that matter to you?”
Darin’s expression turned cold. “When has what I want ever meant anything to you?”
Yvonne was caught off guard. She couldn’t find any words to reply.
Without another glance, Darin pulled his eyes away and walked out.
“Darin!” Yvonne called after him.
He didn’t stop. He got in the car, and the driver took him away from the villa.
Later, around noon, Darin’s phone buzzed with a message from Yvonne. Darin, I’m sorry. I’ve been in a bad mood lately. I shouldn’t have said what I did. I’m sorry.
He stared at the message for a long time, his face unreadable. Finally, he put his phone down without replying.
A moment later, his phone rang. It was Colton, calling to say he’d be bringing Darin lunch again. Colton had been dropping off lunch for him right on time these past few days.
“I’m free right now, Dad. Just come up when you get here.”
