She’d always been curious, but she never asked. Honestly, she was afraid that bringing it up would remind Savannah of things she’d rather forget.
Savannah leaned against the edge of the sink, head tipped back as she stared at the ceiling. “I’m not really sure. But I do know that even without Andrea in the picture, we probably wouldn’t have lasted.”
“Why not?” Felicia asked.
Savannah’s voice softened. “It’s like… there’s someone else. Someone really important to him, deep down.”
Felicia’s brows drew together. “Someone he loves?”
Savannah let out a long sigh. “I guess so. He always keeps a photo of her on him. That has to mean something, right? But I have no idea who she is or what about her makes him care that much.”
Felicia remembered the pocket watch she’d found back in Northwick. There had been a photo tucked inside. If he’d kept it all these years, it must mean a lot to him.
“Does Andrea know?” Felicia asked.
Savannah shook her head. “It’s his secret. I just found out by accident. Andrea definitely doesn’t know.” She snorted, a hint of sarcasm in her laugh. “If she did, she’d totally lose it. She’s so obsessed with being the only one he cares about. Sometimes I want to tell her, just to see how she’d react.”
“If this woman was so important, how come he’s still by himself after all this time?” Felicia wondered aloud.
Savannah shrugged. “I have no idea.”
Felicia decided not to push it. “So, what about you, Savannah? Are you going to try things out with Chris?”
Savannah gave a halfhearted smile. “Might as well give it a shot.”
Felicia knew Savannah was struggling inside, but there wasn’t much she could say. From what she’d seen, Chris seemed like a decent guy.
They left the restroom together.
As they headed back, they bumped into Darin just as he was about to go in.
Darin glanced at them.
Savannah quickly looked away.
Felicia didn’t bother looking at him either.
