The Ugly Wife’s Stunning Comeback novel Chapter 398

After a brief chat with Anne, Felicia ended the video call. She scrolled through Max’s contacts, found Luke’s number, and hit call.

It rang for a few seconds. Silence greeted her.

“Luke, it’s me.”

There was a pause, then Luke’s voice, low and worried. “Felicia, are you okay?”

“I’m fine. Max took me with him. My phone broke, so I couldn’t call before.”

Luke didn’t sound surprised. “We figured something like that happened.”

“So Max isn’t letting you leave?”

She let out a breath. “No, he wants me to stay here until I go back home.”

Luke asked where she was. Felicia gave him the address.

“As long as you’re safe, that’s what matters,” he said. “How’s Jeremy doing?”

Felicia thought back to the night of the party, remembering the way Holden had glared at Jeremy. Holden was vengeful, there was no way he’d just let things slide.

“Holden actually showed up here today. So, you might be safer with Max than anywhere else.”

Felicia’s heart clenched. “What did he want?”

“Just came to threaten us, try to scare us off.”

Felicia frowned. “Holden isn’t the type to make empty threats. Luke, if you and Jeremy don’t have to be here, maybe you should just go home. This isn’t like being back in our own city.”

Just as she finished speaking, a low voice came from behind her.

“Are you done?”

Felicia jumped, turning to see Max standing in the doorway.

He walked over and smoothly took the phone from her hand. Glancing at the screen, he brought it to his ear. “Luke, I’ll say this one more time. If you don’t have any business here, go home.”

There was only silence on the other end before Max ended the call. He looked down at Felicia, his tone serious. “You and Luke are just friends. Don’t cross that line.”

Felicia rolled her eyes. “Max, not everyone sees the world the way you do.”

“Ms. Ross started her period today. She’s been in bed all day and hasn’t eaten anything.”

Max went straight to Felicia’s room. He found her huddled under the covers, her face pale and tight with pain.

He told the maid to call a doctor.

About thirty minutes later, the doctor arrived, introduced herself as a gynecologist, and got right to work. She gave Felicia a shot for the pain and checked her over.

Once she left the bedroom, she found Max in the living room, still working. He glanced up. “How is she?”

The doctor nodded, remembering a similar case not long ago. “Her cramps are quite bad. I gave her a painkiller, but if she’s still in this much pain tomorrow, it’s best to take her to the hospital. She needs to rest, eat light, and keep her mood up.”

After giving a few more instructions, the doctor left.

The maid had already prepared a bowl of ginger and honey soup, ready to take upstairs.

“I’ll do it,” Max said.

He carried the bowl into Felicia’s room. Thanks to the injection, the pain had eased a little, but she still felt weak and didn’t want to move from the bed.
