The Ugly Wife’s Stunning Comeback novel Chapter 394

“Gavin!”

A woman’s voice rang out, sharp and clear.

Felicia turned and spotted her instantly. The woman was gorgeous, all shiny hair and amber eyes, with the kind of confidence that made her look like she belonged on the cover of a magazine. Everything about her screamed old money and high society.

Gavin looked stunned. “Eleanor? What are you doing here? When did you get here?”

Eleanor didn’t answer him. She kept her eyes on Felicia and reached out a hand. “Hi. I’m Eleanor, Gavin’s fiancée. May I ask, what is your relationship to him?”

Gavin froze. His expression darkened, clear frustration showing in the tight set of his jaw. “Eleanor, we’re not engaged.”

Eleanor didn’t even blink. Her attention stayed locked on Felicia.

Felicia could feel the tension, that unmistakable chill of another woman’s jealousy. It didn’t take a genius to see what was going on. Eleanor was probably the girl Gavin’s family wanted him to marry.

Felicia took her hand, her smile polite. “Hi, I’m Evelynn. Gavin and I went to school together. We’re friends.”

Eleanor looked her up and down. “You’re very beautiful, Evelynn. No wonder Gavin is so interested in you, and brought you to this party.”

“Thank you. You look amazing, too. You and Gavin really suit each other.”

Eleanor smiled sweetly. “Thank you. In that case, would you mind letting me have him for tonight?”

Felicia kept her tone light. “You’re too generous, Miss Eleanor. He’s your fiancé. I don’t have a say in that.”

Gavin, who’d basically been invisible this whole time, finally had enough. He shot Eleanor a look, his voice edged with irritation. “Eleanor…”

He never finished his sentence. Felicia’s phone started vibrating in her bag.

She pulled it out, glanced at the screen, then gave them a quick nod. “Sorry, I need to take this call.”

“Evelynn!” Gavin called after her, sounding desperate.

Eleanor grabbed his arm. “Gavin, it’s obvious she doesn’t even like you.”

Gavin yanked his arm free, glaring at Eleanor. His voice was low, angry. “Eleanor, this doesn’t concern you. Don’t push me.”

He didn’t answer. He just kept moving, dragging her out of the hall.

Only when they stepped into the pale glow of the moon outside did Felicia finally see his face.

“Max, what are you doing? Let go of me.”

She tried to pull away, but his grip only tightened. She gathered her dress in her free hand, stumbling in her heels as she struggled to keep up with him.

“Ah!”

Suddenly, she lost her balance and went down hard.

Max stopped and turned. Felicia was on her knees, one hand pressed to the ground, the other still caught in his grasp.

Her face had gone white from the pain. Her phone had slipped from her hand and landed a few feet away, the screen splintered.

Max bent down and, without a word, swept her up into his arms.
