“Evelynn, check out my new hair clip.” Anne pulled the barrette from her hair and held it up for Felicia to see.
The pink diamond sparkled, clearly a designer custom piece.
Felicia grinned. “It’s gorgeous. Honestly, Anne, you look good in everything.”
Anne beamed. “My dad designed it for me.”
Felicia paused, surprised. Max designed it? She never would’ve guessed he had that kind of talent.
“Anne, how about I come pick you up this weekend?” Felicia asked.
Anne’s whole face lit up. “Yes! I wish it was the weekend already.”
Felicia’s gaze softened as she looked at her daughter.
After their call, Felicia felt calmer and dove back into her work for the financial magazine. She reviewed some reports, made a few calls, and before she knew it, she was too busy to think about anything else.
That evening, Gavin showed up with dinner in hand.
“Hey.”
Felicia blinked in surprise, then took the food. “Thanks.”
“We had a deal, remember? Before you came back, you promised that if I ever made it to the Capital, you’d buy me dinner. You haven’t forgotten, right, Evelynn?” Gavin teased.
Felicia smiled, just a little. “I remember.”
They really had made that promise, back then.
“Great. I’ll see you in the Capital then,” Gavin said.
Felicia just nodded. “Okay.”
Gavin didn’t ask about Max. He just smiled and said, “Enjoy your dinner. I’ll let you eat in peace.”
The next morning at nine, the cruise ship docked.
Felicia and Jeremy got off the boat and happened to run into Max and Andrea.
Felicia saw him right away.
