Darin did not even flinch. "I enjoy it. Is that any of your business?"
His phone buzzed in his pocket. He pulled it out and saw Felicia's name on the screen. "Hello, Felicia."
"Are you heading home yet?" she asked. Savannah had just called her to ask if Darin had returned. Colton and Ava had already left for their date, leaving Savannah alone with Sean.
Darin opened his mouth to reply, but caught sight of Max's incredibly smug expression. After a brief pause, he sighed. "I am on my way back right now."
Felicia ended the call. Max clapped Darin heavily on the shoulder. "Hurry along, then." With that, Max strode purposefully toward the building. Darin glared daggers at his retreating back.
Max walked straight into the lobby and spotted Felicia sitting on one of the sofas. He approached casually and sat down directly across from her. Felicia refused to acknowledge him, leaning heavily against the cushions as she scrolled through her phone. Max remained silent, simply observing her dark, unreadable expression.
A long while passed before he finally spoke. "Anne's class does not end until five. We should go for a walk. We can come back to pick her up later."
Felicia barely lifted her eyes to look at him. "What exactly were you two doing out there?"
"Nothing much," Max replied smoothly. "Your brother just has a very punchable face."
"Are you implying you were completely innocent?"
"I never said that."
