"Mommy!"
Max held onto Anne's hand to keep her from running.
Felicia walked toward them, her gaze landing on Max. The man's face was as coldly stoic as ever. Jeremy stood by his car, quietly observing the three of them.
"Mom, Dad and I came to pick you up."
Felicia reached out and stroked her daughter's head. "Were you tired from gym class today?"
"Not at all. I played basketball really well, and the intructor praised me," Anne beamed.
Felicia offered a doting smile. "You're so amazing, Anne."
Anne grinned, showing off her little white teeth.
Felicia looked up at Max and asked, "Are you taking Anne home today?"
"It's up to you," Max replied.
Anne suddenly tugged at her mother's hand. "Mom," she prompted, blinking her large eyes in a clear attempt to remind Felicia of something.
Felicia knew exactly what Anne meant. She glanced at Max, who was staring right back at her, making it impossible to tell how much he knew.
"Then Anne will come home with me today."
Max didn't reply. His gaze shifted toward Jeremy, and his expression was unmistakably hostile. Felicia saw it clearly. He was absolutely not going to agree to let her take Anne into Jeremy's car. Anne was right there, so he couldn't voice his objections directly and had to convey his displeasure entirely through his glare.
