"Mommy, what's inside?" Anne asked curiously.
"Nothing special," Felicia replied smoothly, expertly steering the conversation to another topic.
The next day, Heather, Yara, and Jeremy flew back to the Capital.
Jeremy sent her a text: Take good care of yourself. If you need anything, call me.
Felicia replied: Thank you.
Over the next few days, Felicia settled into a routine. If she wasn't overwhelmed with work, she brought Anne to the office. However, her morning sickness was becoming increasingly severe. Her appetite plummeted. Mabel tried her best to cook bland, scentless meals, but Felicia still threw up whatever little she managed to eat. By the time the weekend arrived, she was far too drained to take Anne out to play.
"Mommy, what's wrong? Are you sick?" Anne asked, her big eyes filled with worry. She had noticed her mother's exhaustion.
"I'm fine, sweetheart. Don't worry," Felicia reassured her gently.
Anne climbed onto the couch and wrapped her little arms around Felicia's neck. "I'll stay right here with you."
Felicia held her daughter close, her heart melting. If only Anne could stay by her side forever like this. But deep down, she knew this quiet, peaceful life wouldn't last. All she could do was cherish the time they had left.
