For Felix, someone at the Pulse Realm level was as insignificant as a bug—he could crush them effortlessly. However, since he had just arrived in Martial City and knew very little about the place, acting rashly could lead to unpredictable consequences.
If someone stronger lurked in the shadows, failing so soon after arriving would be a disaster. Felix glanced at the corpse of the old woman and quickly came up with a plan.
Within a minute, a group of dozens rushed into the cave, their faces shifting to surprise at the sight of so many bodies and all the blood. One of them muttered, "They're all dead?"
Leading the group was a young woman who appeared to be in her 20s. She had striking features and a graceful demeanor. She wore a white dress, and her sharp, intelligent eyes scanned the scene.
"Miss, what's going on here?" one of the subordinates asked cautiously.
The woman frowned and examined the area before noticing Felix huddling in a corner. He was crouched with his hands over his head, trembling as if terrified. The group had seen him when they entered but had ignored him, assuming he was not worth their attention.
"Stand up, or you die," the woman commanded coldly, her tone leaving no room for argument.
Felix instantly jumped to his feet, his face pale as he shouted, "Don't kill me! Please don't kill me!"
Several of the group sneered, clearly looking down on him. Judging by his presence, Felix seemed like an ordinary person who could not even compare to a martial artist—pathetic to the extreme.
What they did not know was that Felix was using the Nightshade Discipline. Even though he could naturally conceal his energy, this technique made him completely indistinguishable from an average human.
The woman stepped closer and asked, "What happened here?"
Emboldened slightly by the sight of her beauty, Felix managed to calm down a bit. He asked cautiously, "You're not with them?"
"No. We were sent here to eliminate these criminals," she replied firmly.
With a sigh of relief, Felix placed a hand on his chest and said, "Thank goodness! Then, I'm saved! Earlier, someone suddenly burst in and started killing everyone.
Felix clenched his fists, inwardly cursing the man. There were only 1,000 emeralds, and he was still pinning to it.
Felix wondered just how broke he was. He was prepared to fight if it came to it—there was no way he would let them search him. If they found the emerald cards, his secrets would be exposed, and it would all be over.
The woman snapped, "Let him go! He's just a victim. If you're stooping low enough to target a defenseless civilian, you're the real waste of space."
The man immediately backed off, bowing his head as he mumbled an apology. Relieved, Felix quickly left the cave, silently vowing to be more careful.
If he had put the emerald cards back where he found them, none of that would have happened. Sometimes, greed was not worth the trouble unless you were absolutely certain it would not backfire.
After figuring out which direction to go, Felix began walking toward the city he had seen earlier.
