The price of betrayal (Jack and Ashley) novel Chapter 271

"This birthday party wasn't planned with you in mind. Why don't you go outside and take a break while you wait?

"Go. Wait for Mr. Baxter and come in together. By that time, it will be both of your responsibility to handle any internal issues within the Baxter family."

Lincoln's tears stopped flowing as soon as Nolan spoke. He was stunned for a moment. At that moment, he remembered how accurately Nolan had stated Archie's current address. And then it dawned on him—Nolan also knew about Archie's hunger strike and how he had stopped eating.

"What do you mean, Mr. Greene? Why would Mr. Baxter show up?"

Nolan grinned and said, "Mr. Riley, if you trust me, just wait for him. Mr. Baxter will show up. Don't worry. Any challenges that arise will not stop us. Just have faith in my words."

Lincoln had no idea why, but he found himself wanting to believe in Nolan with all of his heart at this very moment.

He felt that Nolan could really solve all problems, but he couldn't afford to take risks and had no courage to take risks. After all, Mr. Baxter's life was at stake.

"Mr. Greene, I am not aware of your methods or capabilities. However, if you intend to send a team to rescue Mr. Baxter, I urge you not to go.

"The people who are guarding Mr. Baxter are no longer my men. Ironhead has replaced them with his own men. If the conditions are not ideal, it could potentially put Mr. Baxter in danger. So, you can't go. If you go, Mr. Baxter's life will be at risk."

Lincoln's despair may have stemmed from this very source. He had witnessed everything firsthand and now carried a deep regret, but he felt paralyzed to take any action out of fear that one wrong move could cost Archie his life.

Perhaps he had not overestimated Ironhead, but rather had underestimated Nolan.

Nolan glanced over at Lincoln, who was clearly anxious. With a small smile, he said, "Mr. Riley, it's never too late as long as you genuinely repent. Trust me. Go outside and wait. Mr. Baxter will return to you safely and soundly.

With that, Nolan pushed Lincoln's hand away and marched toward the banquet hall. As Lincoln watched Nolan's retreating back, an unexplainable sense of confidence washed over him.

Teeth gritted, Lincoln dialed a number. "From this moment on, relay my command. Deploy all available staff to secure the Baxter residence and the Baxter Group. At the same time, mobilize everyone else and have them report to me immediately at the Norwich Hotel.

"Remember, make the necessary arrangements right away and take decisive action. Anyone who dares to procrastinate or shows a lack of effort cannot blame me, Lincoln, for being ruthless!"

The call was then ended.

In the Bellington underworld, Lincoln's men began to gather and carry out his instructions with haste.

Suddenly, the once clear sky darkened, and it was as if ominous clouds were descending upon the city, causing a heavy sense of pressure on the people.
