The price of betrayal (Jack and Ashley) novel Chapter 205

"Are you planning to do something, Lincoln?" Archie asked softly as suspicion filled his gaze.

Lincoln sighed subtly and shook his head. Then, he said with a smile, "No, I was just suddenly feeling sentimental. Maybe I'm getting on my age. That might be why I'm saying something so depressing."

Archie patted his shoulder and said, "Yeah, we're both old now. Sometimes, we need to accept it. If possible, I would really like to retire and enjoy a carefree life.

"If that day comes, you should join me, Lincoln. I know you won't bear to drop everything, but we need to do it eventually. That way, our children can have the chance to grow, right?"

When Lincoln heard that, his eyes lit up immediately. What Archie had said made him excited, and his worries greatly faded away.

"Are you really planning on retiring, Mr. Baxter? Y-You're not that old, and most people wouldn't even give up their rights when they're on their deathbeds. Why don't you think about it?" Lincoln asked.

Archie laughed. "I understand what you're saying. However, I've already thought about retiring for a long time. After all, I'm not as energetic as before, so why do I need to hold on to my position? Besides, with what my dad's facing, I've already accepted things like this.

"I'm going to wait just a little while longer. After all, our family is in trouble now. I have to make sure we get through this first before I leave the family in our children's hands."

As he spoke, his eyes lit up. It was as if he had already made up his mind.

Meanwhile, Lincoln looked at Archie and said softly, "Maybe I really made the right choice. After all, you're too exhausted."

Archie was stunned for a moment when he heard that. He turned to Lincoln and asked, "What did you say?"

Lincoln shook his head and smiled. "Nothing. Have a good rest, Mr. Baxter."

Archie nodded. "I'm feeling more relaxed today. However, you're right. Tomorrow will be a new day, and maybe it's time to start from the beginning again.

"Let's talk tomorrow, Lincoln. Believe me. Mr. Greene won't let us down. I might've just made the best decision of my life this time. I can almost see the victory light now."

As he spoke, his voice started getting softer. Despite denying that he was drunk, Archie ended up sleeping with his head tilted to the side.

There was a hint of pain in Lincoln's gaze. He sighed as he looked at Archie, who was sound asleep.

He opened the door and said with a sigh, "Do you know what time it is?"

She glanced at him before barging into the living room confidently. "So what? You're still awake, aren't you? What's wrong? Are you scared of me checking up on you? Are you hiding someone in the house?"

After saying that, she started scanning the room seriously. She even looked excited while she was looking around. It was like she could finally get Audrey to give up on him if she managed to find something.

Nolan looked at her while she acted unreasonably. He couldn't be bothered to deal with her, so he sat back on the couch and continued drinking.

"How dare you say that you weren't hiding anyone, Nolan? Did you get them to leave hurriedly after finding out I was coming? Otherwise, who were you eating with earlier?" Kara said.

She was slightly disappointed when she didn't find any woman hiding in the house.

However, she noticed the dishes on the table, along with a couple of glasses and utensils. Clearly, they were a set for two people. So, she suddenly felt excited and started interrogating him.

Nolan pointed at the seat in front of him and calmly said, "Mr. Baxter was here just now, drinking and chatting with me. What's wrong? If you don't believe me, feel free to ask him about it."
