The price of betrayal (Jack and Ashley) novel Chapter 200

Lincoln's expression turned serious when he saw Shaun. "Didn't I tell you to leave? Why are you still here?"

Shaun smiled sheepishly and pulled Lincoln into the room. "I did leave. I just came back, but I came back with good news for you, Lincoln."

"What good news? The only good news for me in this current situation would be hearing that Gregory has decided to let his matter go. But is that even possible?"

Shaun clapped his hands and chuckled. "You always see right through me, Lincoln. Your insight is impressive."

Lincoln was confused. What did Shaun mean by that? All he said was that he wanted Gregory to let the matter go and not bring trouble to the Baxters.

Lincoln's expression suddenly shifted at that thought. He frowned. "Shaun, this isn't something to joke about. What exactly are you trying to say? Spit it out. Explain why you asked me to keep quiet about your return, and why you called for me."

Shaun guided him to the couch and poured him a cup of coffee. Handing the coffee over with a smile, Shaun responded, "Do I look like I'm joking? Besides, I wouldn't dare joke about something like this.

"So you're Gregory's godson now. And just because of that, he's agreed to let the Baxters go? Is that it? Were there any other conditions?"

Shaun smiled. "Of course, there's a condition. After all, Mr. Lynch was incensed when Dad sent those pictures. He's never been challenged like that in all the years he's ruled over Eastern State. That's why his condition is for me to take over the Baxters. If that's done, then he'll let everything slide."

Lincoln's eyes went wide at this, and he slammed the table hard. "The insolence!"
