When Kara entered the bar, the place had already been cleaned up. Only Hunter and a few of his men were still there. He was kneeling on broken glass, his face twisted in agony from the pain.
She quickly said, "Hunter, they're all gone now. You can get up. And why are you so obedient? Why do you obey his commands? He tells you to kneel on glass, and you actually do it? You could've fought back!"
She was naive and even foolish to say this. If there was one person Hunter hated most at this moment, it was undoubtedly Kara. If it weren't for the trouble she had brought him into, would he have ended up like this?
But seeing her unusual connection with Nolan, he was too cautious to lash out.
"Kara, don't talk as if this is some joke. Fight back? Fight back against who? Nolan was Lincoln's guest. You want me to fight back in front of him and get myself killed?
"Do you really think the underworld is just like the playful scuffles you're used to seeing? Let me tell you, this world is filled with blood and violence. One wrong step, and you're dead. Have you still not learned anything from my current situation?
"Enough. I don't want to waste any more words on this. Just leave already."
Kara's eyes began to well up after she listened to his harsh words. "Why… why are you snapping at me? I feel bad for you and guilty, that's all. They're gone, so get up. It's over."
Hunter shook his head, giving a bitter laugh as he pointed at a small patch of clear glass left on the floor. "Nolan said that only when every piece of glass on the floor is covered in blood can I get up. Now, there's still a bit left. Once that's done, I can finally go to the hospital.
He was one of her friends. Though there was quite an age gap, they were indeed friends. Seeing her friend reduced to this because of her recklessness, Kara felt guilt and complete despair.
"No! I won't let you break your arm and leg. This is my fault—let him punish me instead."
She suddenly stepped in front of Hunter, gritting her teeth. "Ignore what Nolan said. I'll take responsibility for everything.
"He's dating Audrey. He always listens to her, and Audrey loves me more than anyone. So, I'll handle this. Don't worry about it."
