Imperial Heights.
Anthony was in the shower. Charlotte, cozy in her favorite pajamas, sat cross-legged at the coffee table, her attention locked on the laptop in front of her. One hand gripped the mouse, the other propped up her chin as she scrolled through the files Jackson had just sent over.
It was all there. The messy truth behind the Hawk family feud from more than twenty years ago, and the real reason Franco had left for Solenia.
The Hawk family was the most powerful of the three big families on the Isle of Veil. To keep their position, Franco’s father, Allanson, had gone behind his son’s back and arranged a marriage for him. He even sent a small army of bodyguards to keep Franco under lock and key until the wedding, just in case he tried to run.
But by then, Franco had already met Nora.
So…
He snapped. Franco gathered his own people and launched a full-on attack against the Hawk family, ready to go down with the ship if that’s what it took. The family estate burned for days, the flames finally dying out after three endless nights. The Hawk Group’s main businesses took heavy hits from retaliatory strikes.
With disaster inside and out, the Hawk family was left in shambles. Allanson was so angry he threatened to cut Franco off for good.
Franco didn’t hesitate. He basically told him, fine, go ahead, but don’t ever mess with me again or I won’t care about taking the whole family down with me a second time.
Allanson was livid. For the sake of a woman, Franco had thrown away everything, defying his father and walking away from a life of power and privilege. But the Hawk family still had other heirs. If Franco couldn’t be controlled, it was better he was gone.
From then on, Franco was out. He cut off all ties with his family. When he later took over Solenia, no one from the Hawks dared bother him again.
Charlotte finished reading and couldn’t help but smile. Her dad really did love her mom. No question about it.
