The Mocked Miss’s Hidden Crowns novel Chapter 921

“Charlotte, you…”

“I’m not dying.” Charlotte cut Jackson off, her eyes drifting to the roses blooming outside the window. A shadow passed over her face. “Don’t tell Anthony about this. Not until we know for sure.”

“…Alright, Charlotte.”

Jackson never questioned her. His loyalty ran deep. Still, keeping this from Anthony left him uneasy.

“Keep digging into whether the antidote is at the Isle of Veil,” Charlotte said, her voice calm but firm. “Focus on the people who survived.”

If they made it out alive, they must have taken the antidote.

“Yes.” Jackson’s tone was respectful. “What’s your plan now?”

“I need to stabilize my mom’s condition,” Charlotte replied. At the very least, she had to get her mother healthy enough to hold on until the antidote turned up.

She heard the door to the next room swing open. Her brow furrowed. “That’s it for now. I’ll call you later.”

As soon as she hung up, Anthony stepped into the room.

He took in the scene—Charlotte on the balcony, wrapped in a thin towel, her hair still damp, a phone in hand as the night air brushed against her skin.

“Who were you calling? You were in such a hurry, you didn’t even put on a robe,” Anthony said, concern flickering across his face. He crossed the room, grabbed a towel from the bed, and wrapped it around her, pulling her close. “And your hair’s still wet.”

“My mom,” Charlotte answered, tossing her phone onto the table like she couldn’t care less. “I was waiting for you to dry my hair.”

She sounded so matter-of-fact, almost like she was blaming him for not coming sooner.

Anthony chuckled. “Let me get the hair dryer.”

He settled her onto the bed and bent over to open the nightstand drawer. As he reached for the dryer, his hand brushed a white pill bottle. He recognized it right away—the sleeping pills she’d prescribed herself when her insomnia got bad. Judging by the weight, there weren’t many pills left.

So she’d been taking them all this time.

Anthony pressed his lips together, pushed the bottle to the back of the drawer, and brought the dryer over to Charlotte.
