The Mocked Miss’s Hidden Crowns novel Chapter 902

“Yes, Anthony got her to sleep.” Franco sat beside her, feeding her a spoonful of food. He spoke quietly, “If all goes well, Lottie will take the medicine back to Cabinda tomorrow.”

Patricia’s illness couldn’t be put off.

“Okay.” Nora answered, her voice carrying a trace of disappointment.

She hated the thought of Charlotte leaving, but Cabinda was safer than staying here.

“Don’t worry,” Franco said, gently wiping a crumb from her cheek. “Anthony will be there, and so will Lottie’s grandpa and uncle.” He smiled softly. “Just focus on getting some rest. When Asclepius arrives tomorrow and you’re feeling better, we’ll leave for Cabinda together. We can finally slow down and enjoy life.”

Right now, she was too weak to travel, much less survive a long-haul flight.

“Asclepius?” Nora’s eyes widened a little. “You found Asclepius?”

“Anthony said Asclepius will come tomorrow.” Franco admitted he didn’t know more than that.

“Franco…” Nora traced her fingertips along his cheek, wanting to say something, but stopping herself. She didn’t want to crush his hope.

Her illness was beyond even Asclepius’s help.

She knew he was just grasping at straws.

“Trust me, you’ll get better.” Franco took her hand, brushed a kiss across her eyelids, then pulled her gently into his arms. His voice was soft and steady. “We made a promise to Charlotte. We said we’d make up for lost time, and someday walk her down the aisle together. Nora, don’t break that promise.”

A heaviness settled in Nora’s chest. Words of doubt hovered on her lips, but she swallowed them. “Okay,” she whispered.

Still, there was one thing she had to be sure of. She needed to know if Lottie really had that gene mutation.

...

The next morning, sunlight poured through the window, casting a golden glow across the white sheets.

Charlotte blinked awake and glanced at the empty spot beside her.

A frown tugged at her brow.
