“Hmm?” Charlotte answered, licking her dry lips and acting completely unfazed. “I’m in pretty good shape.”

Andrew just stared at her. His grandma and Lavinia had been so worried about Charlotte, they’d asked him to keep an eye on her. Now it just seemed pointless.

“Let’s go eat,” Charlotte said, tugging her cap lower over her forehead and shoving her hands into her pockets. She gave the group a little nod, and started walking toward the cafeteria.

On the way, they kept hearing people talking about the “top scorer in the country.” During training, no one used their real names, only numbers. All anyone knew was that the top scorer was in their camp, but not which company she was in.

Charlotte just smiled to herself, not caring at all.

They hadn’t made it very far when a familiar voice floated over.

“Thanks for helping me carry my stuff.”

Charlotte’s eyes went cold. She looked over, and sure enough, there was a girl from another team, dressed in training gear and holding a water bottle. A bunch of guys were gathered around her, grinning while she smiled sweetly back at them.

“Olivia!” Andrew recognized her right away.

Charlotte stood still, her expression icy, lips curling into a mocking smile.

Olivia must have felt the stare, because she looked up and met Charlotte’s eyes. For a second, Olivia froze, her face flashing with panic. But in the next instant she put on a calm front and walked straight over.

“Charlotte.”

Charlotte looked her up and down, silent, her eyes full of obvious disdain.

Olivia kept her smile, but it was all for show. “After I got expelled from Vanguard High, I had to jump through so many hoops just to get into another school. Barely made it in time for the exams.” She glanced away, then back, still pretending to be cheerful. “Don’t worry. I know I messed up. My parents do too. I’m going to work hard this time, keep my head down.”
