The Mocked Miss’s Hidden Crowns novel Chapter 1917

Stella received the medication quickly.

The pills seemed highly effective. After taking them for two weeks straight, not only did her complexion improve, but her episodes of mental confusion lessened significantly.

She only had two weeks left before returning to Cabinda.

Holding her watercolors, Stella was painting a mural on the school wall when she heard a commotion at the entrance.

"Careful. These are expensive, don't scratch them up."

Clay was leading a group of people carrying large boxes inside.

It was clear they were major appliances—televisions, computers, air conditioners...

"Stella, these are all from that generous donor."

Clay announced, his face beaming with joy. "Our village school is finally going to have the same facilities as the ones in the city.

Oh, and the road from our village to the county is getting repaved, too.

With these improved conditions, we're bound to attract more teachers in the future."

Stella stood there holding her paintbrush, listening quietly, but a strange suspicion tugged at her mind.

She paused before asking softly, "Did this generous donor only start funding our village this year?"

Ever since she arrived, this mysterious benefactor had donated an enormous amount of supplies.

And now they were building a road...

That was a massive expense. Just who exactly was this person?

"We've had donations from kind folks before, but never anything on this scale. This is a first."

Caught up in the excitement, Clay answered honestly, letting the words slip right out.

"Who is the donor?"

Stella tightened her grip on her brush, pressing the issue gently.

"It's..." Clay turned back, catching the curious look on Stella's face, and quickly changed his tune. "A philanthropist from overseas."

"Overseas?"

Stella furrowed her brows.

"Yeah."

The smile never left Clay's face as he continued, "Why the sudden interest, Stella?"

"Nothing, just wondering."

Stella shook her head and went back to her painting.

By the time she finished, it was just past noon.

It was the weekend, so the school was empty. Clay and the other teachers were busy installing the appliances, leaving her completely unnoticed.

"How do you know my name?"

Stella took a step back out of her habit of maintaining personal space, her voice soft.

She had never been here before.

"Of course I know it," the young guy answered with a radiant smile. "Everyone for miles around knows a gorgeous new teacher arrived at the school."

"I just had to look for the prettiest girl around, and there you were."

"Oh."

Stella's cheeks flushed at the remark, entirely unsure of how to respond to his... compliment.

"Anyway, Stella, did you come here because you're feeling unwell?"

He opened the door wider. "Come on in and have a seat."

"Thank you."

Stella stepped inside, slowly lifting her gaze to carefully scan the cramped workspace.

She knew the support medical team had about six members.

There were exactly six people in the room.

One of them was the doctor who had treated her a few days prior.
