The Mocked Miss’s Hidden Crowns novel Chapter 1803

“Lottie, I promise I didn’t tell anyone.”

Dr. David was practically jogging to keep up, his voice coming in shaky pants. “I honestly don’t know how Anthony found out...”

“Is he wearing the right gear?” Charlotte asked, phone against her ear as she stared out the window. The sky was so blue, it made her head feel lighter. She hadn’t realized how much she missed Anthony until just now.

“He put on everything he’s supposed to,” Dr. David replied quietly. “He’s probably almost at your place already.”

“You can’t stop him anyway, so there’s no point trying.”

Charlotte ended the call. She went to the door and checked the security camera. There was Anthony, long legs and all, striding straight for her room. The protective suit didn’t do much to hide how broad his shoulders were. Honestly, it looked a little ridiculous on him.

She opened the door before he could even knock.

When Anthony tried to step closer, she immediately stopped him. “Don’t come any closer. Stay right there.”

He froze, dark eyes locking onto her face.

On the way over, he’d already pieced things together. Lottie got jabbed by a patient’s needle. There was a real risk she might be infected with lethargy syndrome. It was the third day since it happened, and he was just now hearing about it. If he hadn’t noticed in their video calls that something was off, how long would she have kept it from him?

He didn’t move, just stood behind the makeshift quarantine line between them, as if it was a whole galaxy instead of a plastic ribbon.

Anthony’s gaze stayed fixed on her, anger churning just beneath the surface.

“We’ll know in another two days,” Charlotte said softly, hands tucked into her pockets. She looked at Anthony’s stormy expression, trying to ease the tension. “I wanted to wait until the results were in before I said anything.”

She was supposed to be on the watch list right now. Letting him get close was reckless.

Anthony didn’t care. He didn’t slow down. Instead, he walked even faster toward her.

Charlotte scowled and spun around, meaning to close the door again.

Anthony wasn’t in a rush, just strolled right up to the door and raised his voice so she could hear. “So here's the deal. Either you open the door and let me in, or I’ll take my mask off and sit out here. Pretty sure hanging around outside is a bigger risk than just letting me in, right?”

Charlotte squeezed her eyes shut, pinched the bridge of her nose, and finally pulled the door open. She kept her eyes low as she spoke. “Are you seriously threatening me right now?”

Anthony straightened up, took her hand in his, and stared directly into her face. “You think I came all this way just to chicken out over being infected by you?”
