Charlotte paused when she saw who was calling, then slid her finger across the screen to answer.
Anthony’s handsome, easy smile showed up right away. Just seeing his face on the screen made her feel like she could finally breathe again.
“Did you eat yet?”
Anthony noticed Charlotte in her mask and comfy loungewear. For a second, his eyes flickered with confusion, but he covered it up almost immediately.
“Yeah, I ate,” she answered, propping her chin on her hands. Her face, makeup-free, looked soft and beautiful, her dark eyes glued to Anthony. “Grandma called me earlier.”
Anthony’s brows pulled together. His voice came out gentle and full of warmth. “What did she want?”
Charlotte shifted in her seat and tried to look casual, tugging her lips into a lazy smile. “She said you probably shouldn’t go back to The Blair Estate for a while.”
She kept the rest to herself. Grandma basically threatened to break Anthony’s legs if he came home now. Going back would be asking for trouble.
“Alright,” Anthony said without batting an eye. He just let out a soft laugh and nodded, like he’d always do whatever Charlotte wanted. “I’ll listen to you.”
“Lottie, are you feeling better?” Dr. David’s voice popped in at just the wrong time. Charlotte’s brows creased, and she answered quickly, “I’ve got something to deal with. Gotta go.”
She hung up before Anthony could say a word, shooting Dr. David a look that said, seriously?
“Sorry…” Dr. David gave her a sheepish shrug.

Back in Cabinda, Anthony sat quietly with his phone in his hand long after the call had ended.
“Anthony? Is something wrong?” Hans asked, sounding worried.
“Lottie went all the way to Apex just to check on the patients herself and try to figure out what’s wrong with them.” Anthony stared ahead, voice calm but icy. “But for the past two days, every time we video chatted, she’s always been in her room.”
That wasn’t like her. With what he knew about Charlotte, she’d be down in the wards, helping out wherever she could, unless something had happened in the meantime.
“Where’s Lottie?” Anthony’s eyes swept the area, taking in the unfamiliar surroundings. When he didn’t spot Charlotte anywhere, his whole vibe turned ice-cold.
“Lottie… uh…” Dr. David stammered, looking more flustered than usual. “Let me call her. Just give me a second.”
Anthony didn’t even wait. He glanced at his phone, already checking Charlotte’s exact location.
Seeing Anthony heading straight for the quarantine area, Dr. David panicked. “That zone’s dangerous! You can’t just go in!”
Anthony ignored him, grabbed a set of protective gear, and picked up his pace.
Dr. David puffed after him, barely able to catch his breath. “Are all married couples this stubborn? Honestly, you two are like a pair of mules.”
He dug out his phone, calling Charlotte as he hurried to keep up.
“Anthony’s here?” Charlotte caught the hint of panic in Dr. David’s voice, and her mouth tightened, brows pulling together in worry.
