“Kenneth’s been invited to perform the opening theme for Where the Clouds End.”
“That’s right.” The director had only just confirmed Kenneth’s appearance before the event, sending someone to convince him to join them on the red carpet. Honestly, he didn’t think it would work, but to his surprise, Kenneth actually said yes.
“Kenneth, welcome.” The director strode over, trying to hide his excitement. His eyes flicked to Jarrod, who was standing beside Emily.
One glance was all it took. Jarrod knew exactly what the director meant.
The whole project needed hype and attention. The plan had been to play up the relationship between the two leads to build some good press. But with Kenneth showing up now, did they even need any more spin?
“Welcome, Kenneth.” Jarrod squeezed out a not-so-genuine smile and shot Emily a look, his expression a little pitiful. “Emily, the carpet’s kind of uneven, so be careful.”
“Okay.” Emily gave a polite nod.
“And...”
Jarrod wanted to say more, but Kenneth just stepped in between them, close enough for only the three of them to hear. “She’s with me. If she falls, I’ll catch her.”
“You—”
“What about me?” Kenneth gave her a look like he was scolding her. “How many times have you almost tripped already? Really lost count, haven’t you?”
Emily’s mouth dropped open, her cheeks burning. She thought Kenneth was completely shameless.
“Hold onto me,” he said, grinning as he noticed she was kind of annoyed. He leaned in, adding, “If you fall again, we’re definitely making headlines.”
Emily wanted to say no, but all the reporters had their eyes glued to them, waiting for a scoop. It honestly looked like they were hoping for something scandalous.
So, just to keep the peace, she slipped her arm through Kenneth’s.
“Yeah,” her manager murmured. “But to be clear, she’s wearing a fake.”
Their studio’s stylist had some inside connections at Jeva and had actually seen the sketches from the ‘Flowers’ collection. The moment Emily showed up in the supposed ‘new’ dress, their stylist recognized it for what it was.
A knockoff.
“Wow, she’s got nerve,” Sabina said with a smirk, narrowing her eyes under the smoky makeup. “Wearing a fake to this kind of event and hoping no one figures it out.” She paused, then her lips curled into a slow smile. “Since nobody knows the truth yet... why don’t we help the news get out?”
“First, let’s tip off Jeva’s headquarters.”
“Second, leak the story to the press.”
With a fake designer dress scandal, someone was sure to grab the top headlines... and Emily’s name was about to blow up for all the wrong reasons.
