Primrose could walk on her own, but when Edmund carried her back to the bedroom, she did not even think about stopping him.
After everything she had seen from their past, all she wanted was to stay close to him. She wanted to feel his warmth, hear his breathing, and remind herself that he was here with her now.
That they were both alive.
"Do you want to clean yourself first?" Edmund asked as he gently placed Primrose on the bed, letting her sit on the edge. "You’ll be able to rest more comfortably afterward. How about I call Marielle for you?"
Primrose did not answer him. Instead, she reached out and wrapped her arms around Edmund’s waist, pressing her face against his stomach.
"Can we have some time alone?" she whispered. "I just want to be with you for a while. That’s all."
He stayed like that for a few seconds before lowering himself to his knees in front of her. His hand moved to her face, his fingers brushing softly over her cheek.
His touch was so gentle that Primrose thought she might have started purring if she were a cat.
"If that’s what you want, then alright," Edmund said softly. "I can help you take a bath too."
To be honest, Primrose did not even care whether it was just a bath or something more. After all, the only thing she wanted right now was to be with Edmund, so nothing else mattered.
"Alright." She leaned forward and wrapped her arms around him again, unwilling to let him stay too far away from her. "You can take a bath with me too."
Surprisingly, Edmund kept his promise from beginning to end.
Of course, Primrose knew him well enough to know that a few dirty thoughts still crossed his mind from time to time. However, he never acted on them.
Even when they were both in the bath, even when he carefully cleaned every inch of her skin and helped wash her hair, Edmund did nothing more.
Perhaps it was because the emotions inside Primrose’s heart were much stronger than any desire he might have felt and Edmund could feel every single one of them.
The sadness. The pain. The guilt. The relief that they were finally together again.
In their past life, Edmund had failed to protect her. He had died before her, leaving his wife behind to face everything alone.
He had not been there when she suffered.
He had not been there when she needed him the most.
Perhaps that was why, now that he could finally hold his wife in his arms again, Edmund wanted nothing more than to keep her close and treasure every second he had with her.
"Do you remember that I had a different hair color back then?" Primrose asked.
Edmund stood behind her, slowly running the comb through her hair. His movements were careful and gentle, as if he were afraid that even the smallest pull might hurt her.
"I remember," Edmund said with a smile. "Of course I remember."
His fingers gathered a few strands of her red hair, letting them slip softly between them.
[She used to have dark hair...]
His expression remained gentle, but his thoughts were far less peaceful.
[But that bastard forced her to keep dyeing it a different color.]
