Sophia prepared a feast for me after my surgery. She told me that I needed nourishment after the operation, so she made me some chicken noodle soup and baked salmon.
I ate to the point that I was so stuffed, and my face was glowing with happiness.
George even intentionally bought me a set of new clothes. He said that I should look energetic on the day I was discharged to embrace a new chapter of my life.
Two weeks later, an uninvited visitor came to my ward.
It was Abigail. She walked in carrying flowers and fruits, and she looked very pale.
Sophia was peeling an apple for me. When she saw Abigail, she glanced at her coldly and didn't talk to her.
I didn't even bother to glance up at her. I just calmly flipped through the magazine in my hand.
"Samuel, I brought you some fruits."
Abigail took a deep breath and walked up to me, trying to put the fruits and flowers on the bedside table.
I sneered. "Take your flowers away. Have you forgotten that I'm allergic to pollen?"
My voice startled Abigail. She immediately retracted her hand like a child being caught doing something wrong.
She looked at me with a pale face and hesitated as she explained, "Don't get me wrong. I didn't know you were so sick. If you had told me sooner, I would come to accompany you and sign the consent form."
Her explanation wasn't convincing.
"What are you still doing here? Are you waiting for me to treat you to a meal?" I said mercilessly.
Abigail's face turned pale at my words. She hesitated and explained, "You really misunderstood me. Actually—"
"That's enough, Abigail!"
Sophia stared at Abigail with a darkened expression and scolded, "Why bother coming here to explain to Samuel now? What's the point? When I called to tell you that he was very sick and needed your consent, where were you? You were with your beloved lover and didn't want to come no matter what.
"I have no idea what you were thinking. How could you think that your own husband's surgery was a lie and that we were trying to deceive you? It's best if you just leave. If you really care about Samuel, don't come and bother him anymore."
With that, Sophia pointed at the door and said coldly, "You are not welcome here. Please leave."
